I have known Philippe Pacalet for years … almost 25 years actually … and it has always been a great pleasure to taste his wines … first from Domaine Prieure-Roch and then later at Maison Philippe Pacalet (since 2001).

Now we have news from the Pacalets … Philippe Pacalets son Reno Pacalet has started a small negociant Business in a domaine “motel” in Chassagne Montrachet.
The first vintage was 2023 and the second shot was 2024 … a difficult vintage for a new vigneron – as the mildew crisis was very hard to get a grasp on.
As a negotiant it was very difficult to source the right grapes and sufficient quality was sometimes defining for what you could make from the grapes … defining the possibility to make whole cluster vinification.
So this is only a intro to the wines of Reno Pacalet … then I will get back to taste the 2025s in a full lineup – as this will allow a full and fair review,
Reno Pacalet Auxey Duress 2024
The Auxey-Duresses is harmonious with good concentration and ripeness – showing a good mid-palate intensity – and with the freshness we like from a Auxey-Duresses. Love the tension and energy … frais et léger. My favorite 2024 in this lineup.

Reno Pacalet Beaune Les Beau Fougets 2024
The Beaune Beau Fougets is bigger and more weighty. Lovely intensity – and a very fine balance. And then we have the question … do we like the energy in the Auxey-Duresses more … I tend to do. But the tension in the Beaune is showing well – and it is after all the bigger wine.

Reno Pacalet Aligoté 2024
Pacalet is like many other fascinated by the possibilities in the Aligoté grape. He has produced two different cuves – one from the Puligny area and one from the Vosne area – typically made from plots from the other side of the road. I preferred the Puligny version, as it had some beautiful citrus notes and a lovely stony minerality. We are talking Oysters (I always talk Oysters) … where the Vosne cuveé had more dense and clayish notes. Also good … but after all I prefer freshness and energy!
