I have many sources and friends in Burgundy, who give me ideas about who to visit next. I also have good friends who tell me who to visit rapidly and who to put on the waiting list.

I can not visit all … never was my ambition, but hopefully I can recommend some good wines … and expand the knowledge we all have about Burgundy.
Coherence and identity
I like to meet the winemakers … especially vignerons with a story and experience, who can explain why their wines are like they are. And when you have coherence and understanding, then it does, in a sense, add to the experience of the wine.
This is the beauty of especially Pinot Noir, where the use of the oak often is quite unique from producer to producer, the ripeness of the phenolics … how the fruit sits … all tell a story..
The best producers have a coherence where all the wines add to the same story … or style if you will … and paint an almost complete identity of the winemaker.
Roisin Curley is this kind of girl with now 10 vintages in Burgundy, she has a steady hand and a quite defined style … her own style … that will please you whenever you open one of these Curley friends.
Róisín Curley – Pharmacist and MW – a lot of brain gathered in this charming and petite girl. Róisín is a quite unusual name and clearly indicates Ireland … and it takes only a few seconds to discover a beautiful singing Irish accent – Róisín the “little rose”.
Her educational background indicates both intellect, structural thinking and a workaholic tendency… You don’t have two jobs while travelling back and forth between France and Ireland … if you are not willing to work hard and with focus.
The wines are like the maker, with a lovely consistency and coherence. Oak a bit forward with a slightly spicy side, which gives all of the wines an interesting character. They are lightly extracted … forward and fresh … with nice fresh phenolics … this is very good for 2023.
Róisín Curley Aligoté 2023
The Aligoté is a lovely entry point. The oak is present yet not dominant, good intensity and length … has a slightly edgy character for the vintage, quite elegant and quite some oomph. I do like it.

Róisín Curley Saint Romain 2023
In the Saint-Romain 2023, the oak is quite dominant … but still adequate fruit. Will need a year to fall into place … it is the style of Róisín … great to taste a different angle on the wines …

Róisín Curley Bourgogne Rouge 2023
This is from Mercury … some oak … hint of caramel – but has a lovely lightness and delicate floral fruit. Love the fruit … as it caresses your palate … a lovely glass for next summer … this summer is now being washed away by the rain showers and temperatures are cool.

Róisín Curley Beaune ‘Les Prévoles’ 2023
This is one of my favourite wines in the lineup. Phenolics are perfect, and the fruit is very delicate and even transparent. So delicate and lively … adorable in my book. Not a big wine … but it holds a lot of joy!
