Terroir Insight: Domaine Jean Grivot Vosne-Romanée Aux Brûlées

By Steen Öhman December 4, 2016

Domaine Grivot is making a large range of 1er crus, and while many are very fine indeed .. some stand out at least in the 2014 and the 2015 vintage.

One of my new favorites – always had the Aux Reignots as the top dog (or is that hog) of the 1er crus – is the Vosne-Romanee Aux Brûlées. In both 2014 and especially this vineyard has produced brilliant wines … offering the generous essence of Vosne-Romanée.

So lets take a closer look at the Grivot plots on Aux Brûlée.

Vosne-Romnée Aux Brûlées – three vineyards in one

Vosne-Romanee Aux Brûlées and the 1er cru part of Vosne-Romanee La Combe Brûlées are often considered as one vineyard, as very few wines are labelled La Combe Brûlée.

But in fact there are three sections – the southern section of Aux Brûlées (1), the northern sections of Aux Brûlées (2), and the lastly the 1er cru section. of La Combe Brûlées (3) – see map below.

The Domaine Grivot plot on Aux Brûlées

Domaine Grivot has a 0.2637 ha plot on Aux Brûlées located in the northern part (2) of the vineyard – i.e. north of the road from Vosne-Romanée towards Corboin and Vergy.
