Visit Domaine Coffinet Duvernay tasting the 2023s

Its just one of these articles … where I needed some time and more tastings to establish my view on the white 2023s.

The 2023 vintage is a quite joyful vintage for good whites and reds, but the variation is large or should I say very large indeed.

So the tasting of Cofinet-Duvernay has actually ended out more positive than originaly conceived, as the use of oak actually seems better judged than I originally thought … more about this with the tasting notes for the last wines.

The tasting was completed December 9th 2024 ….

Domaine Coffinet-Duvernay Chassagne-Montrachet Chassagne Village 2023

From three village vineyards. Has a very nice balance .. delicate fruit … is slightly perfumed .. a lovely elegant Chassagne note …well done in 2023 to keep it elegant and focused.

Domaine Coffinet-Duvernay Chassagne-Montrachet Blanchots Dessus 2023

From a village terroir just belov Criot Batard-Montrachet. Very fine fruit – 25% new oak  …. delicate et legére with a lovely fruit. Has a good intensity and a larger than village life personality … a unique village … spiced with grand cru.

Big rich for the level but still fresh .. delicate and more reduced … this does save the day!

Domaine Coffinet-Duvernay Chassagne-Montrachet La Maltroie 2023

Very elegant fruit .. but on the rich side. From the vineyard inside the estate … the garden  … it`s delicate but a bit dense – this is where 2023 starts to struggle a bit.

Domaine Coffinet-Duvernay Chassagne-Montrachet Les Blanchots-Dessus 2023

Rich and quite dens as the Blanchots Dessus can be especially from the bottom part. This is a great terroir that can handle a lot of fruit and oak, and the balance in this wine is good. Not the lightest or most elegant cuvee I have tasted … but a great vineyard nevertheless.

Domaine Coffinet-Duvernay Chassagne-Montrachet Le Cailleret 2023

The Cailleret has a bit of toasting and I am a bit biased here, as I like the pure and untoasted flawours of this fine vineyard. Very fine phenolic ripeness … delicate and fresh on the midpalate … so we forgive the toasting.
