I’m back at CLF (Domaine Coquard-Loison-Fleurot) to taste the 2022s, and my expectations are high.
A family estate with fine terroirs
Coquard-Loison-Fleurot has been on quite a journey. A few years back, one could find the domaine’s wines in Beaune’s supermarkets. Additionally, quite a bit of the estate’s production was sold to negociants.
Things have changed, however, and dramatically: The Coquard-Loison-Fleurot wines are now much sought after in most of the world.
Domaine Coquard-Loison-Fleurot is a true Burgundian family estate. As the name suggests, the family tree has several branches, and therefore also many different vineyards.
The families are working together, with different generations participating in the vineyard and cellar work. They are cheerful, friendly vignerons.
The core people at the estate are Claire Fleurot, manager and head of sales; and the winemaker, Thomas Colladot. They are both part of the family group, and are responsible for setting the pace at this iteration of Domaine Coquard-Loison-Fleurot.
Tasting notes on the Coquard-Loison-Fleurot 2022s
Domaine Coquard-Loison-Fleurot offers a fine line-up of lively and energetic wines from 2022. I could elaborate more generally, but frankly it would be a waste of your time and mine. These are straightforward wines of the best, enjoyable kind, especially when not from a dense vintage like 2018.
Domaine Coquard-Loison-Fleurot Bourgogne Rouge 2022
The Bourgogne Rouge is a nice introduction to the rest of the tasting. Fresh and vivid, it shows good acidity and gives a red-fruit impression. From Flagey-Echezeaux vineyards below the Clos de Vougeot, this is stylish and well-made. It won’t blow you away, but it will give you a lot of pleasure. It is possible to find affordable Burgundies.
(Drink from 2024) – Good – (86-87p) – Tasted 28/11/2023 –
Domaine Coquard-Loison-Fleurot Chambolle-Musigny 2022
The first Chambolle-Musigny is on the light-footed side, with classically expressive, mostly red, fruit: wild strawberries and raspberries. It’s cool, has a clear mineral note, and definitely shows more oomph than the ’21.
(Drink from 2029) – Very Good – (89p) – Tasted 28/11/2023 –
