I have known Domaine de Montille for many years, and have tasted both the classical Montille style practiced by Étienne’s legendary father Hubert de Montille … and the more accessible style of Brian Sieve who has been cellarmaster for the last 15 years and currently is making the wines for Étienne de Montille

I have always loved the whites from Domaine de Montille, and since the implementation of the Diam cork, they are a sure choice in white Burgundy.
It had however been a long time since I had tasted these cuvées … so, I decided to give the estate a fresh start and a brushup … with all the good memories of previous vintages in the back of my mind.
To the notes!
Domaine de Montille Beaune 1er Cru Les Aigrots 2023
The Beaune 1er Cru Les Aigrots is on the top middle part of the Beaune slope. Clay and marl limestone. Classic white Beaune with a lovely harmonious feel. Delightful saline notes with a quite generous fruit. Phenolics are, as in the other de Montille wines, close to perfect. I am thinking a light turbot dish even before 8 in the morning. Organic since 1995 and biodynamic since 2005. All our wines are certified by Ecocert.
(Drink from 2025) – Very Good (90p) –
