Nicolas Groffier seems to have found beautiful balance in his wines, and even in the notoriouly unpredictable 2018 vintage he is in full control.
The wines have a generous yet vivid tone, offering both freshness and intensity and showing some of the more emotional traits I am looking for in Burgundy.
Groffier in recent years
Nicolas Groffier has done a brilliant job over the past decade, and his style is now both elegant and consistent. More and more hedonistic elements are evident in the wines, and the somewhat-too-polished grip has been loosened as whole-cluster vinification takes over.
The style has turned towards the more expressive and accessible, and new oak is playing a smaller role in the lesser wines.
Most of the wines here are definitely showing some emotional qualities; they are truly delightful.

That cool balance is a key element if one seeks vivid enegy in wine, and Groffier really seems to have nailed the vintage.
