The 2022 wines from Millot are very cheerful. They are pinot noirs to be enjoyed in good company and large gulps, not wines about which to be analytical and intellectual. They are 2022 at its best, and please: no need to be overthink the juice. In fact, a relaxed feeling is needed to enjoy these babies optimally.
I know that 2022 perhaps is lacking a bit in outright intensity and detail. But that said, they ensure you can lean back and enjoy the ride; these are my kind of wines. The Winehog like the hedonistic element – the enjoyment like there is no tomorrow. I don’t need wines to remind me of the complexity of everyday life. Give me 2022!
Alix Millot has unsuprisingly made great ’22s; this type of vintage is the natural habitat of Domaine Jean-Marc Millot. They are wines are to enjoy, and are rarely overly detailed or complex. They give pleasure in buckets and spades.
Are they as good as the 2019s? Maybe not; but actually, I don’t care. The character of the 2022s is different: pure and effortless enjoyment, without counting points or thinking about the ever-increasing prices of grands crus.
The beauty is there even in the lesser wines, so let’s taste and enjoy.
Domaine Jean-Marc Millot Bourgogne Rouge 2022
The Bourgogne Rouge is a hedonistic treat. It’s quite fulfilling, with nice intensity, and is simple in the best sense of the word. This shows good depth for its level and is displaying what I want from a 2022: enjoyment and plenty of it. A vin de soif, so drink it young. Drink it now!

Domaine Jean-Marc Millot Côte de Nuits Village 2022
The Côte de Nuits Village is from very old vines that give it good balance and ripeness. It’s ripe, vivid, and with quite a delicate feel. While not super precise, it doesn’t need to be, as it completes an impressionistic pinot painting with broad strokes. Let me repeat this: I like the wines from the Comblanchien/Corgoloin area, especially in years like 2022.

Domaine Jean-Marc Millot Côte de Nuits Village Le Vaucrain 2022
The Côte de Nuits Vaucrain is a 100% whole-cluster wine, and furthermore very low on sulphur. It’s a relatively new trial from Millot, creating a wine with a different aroma profile and drinkability. The 2022 vintage is perfect for this type of wine – a vin de soif – that is juicy and intense, showing whole-cluster spices like cinnamon. This is becoming a early-to-drink favourite of mine.

Domaine Jean-Marc Millot Côte de Nuits Village Aux Falques 2022
Aux Falques is located in the centre of Comblanchien (more about the terroir here), and I adore it. In some years it’s almost too much, with the alcohol pushing 14%. In 2022, it’s just great – and with options. Alix made two cuvees: one fully destemmed and one 100% whole clusters, giving two wines that are very different. Neither of the cuvees is very precise, but the destemmed version is unsurprisingly more detailed, hence painting a more complex picture. The whole-cluster version is more expressive and darker in the fruit. Normally, I would go for the whole-cluster version. But in this case, my palate prefers the blend, as the energy is more pronounced. It’s all about balance of the red fruit.

Domaine Jean-Marc Millot Savigny-les-Beaune 2022
Alix really nailed the Savigny-les-Beaune. The 2022 is just lovely, showing elegant, lively fruit with plenty of energy. This is very refined, with a vivacious core of red fruit. I adore it.
