I am back at Domaine Ghislaine Barthod to taste the 2021s with Clément Boillot, who had prepared a small selection of the estate’s wines.
Times have changed at Barthod, as Ghislaine’s son Clément has taken over the family’s wine portfolio, consisting of three domaines: his own endeavour in Beaujolais; his father’s estate, Domaine Louis Boillot; and Domaine Ghislaine Barthod from his mother.

Big changes on the ground, although not necessarily in style. Still, quite a transformation for Clément.
The wines were tasted with Clément from samples on February 4, and they were very well-chosen samples. Let’s go!
The 2021s from Ghislaine Barthod
Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Bourgogne 2021
The Bourgogne rouge is a true beauty, fruity, forward, and a real delight, with oodles of juicy raspberry fruit. A delightful vin de soif with a refined tone, it’s not a big point scorer as such, but it goes straight to my heart.
(Drink from 2023) – Good – (86-87p) – Tasted 04/02/2023 –
Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 2021
The Chambolle village is from eight different parcels and offers quite a refined, intense greeting from the village. It’s fresh and lively, with good tension and intensity. While in reality a lesser wine than the 2020, I do prefer the 2021.
(Drink from 2030) – Fine – (91p) – Tasted 04/02/2023 –
Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny Aux Beaux Bruns 2021
A cuvee made from old vines and millerandage berries, this is from the bottom of the 1er cru band, coming from deeper soil. A fine wine, this perhaps lacks the ultimate in vivid freshness; it’s more on the earthy, robust side. Still, it speaks to my heart.
(Drink from 2033) – Very Good+ – (90-91p) – Tasted 04/02/2023 –
