2023 was a very complex year with a warm and, in some places, problematic harvest. The heat wave … “canicule” … accelerated the ripening, catching some vignerons by surprise and resulting in phenolically overripe wines in quite many places.

Tasting the 2023s reveal that quite many wines are phenolically overripe … sometimes slightly, but also in some cases seriously overripe to the degree of unpleasantness.
Some Burgundian vignerons clearly have been lazy and or greedy when planning the harvest leaving them exposed to the effects of weather changes like the heatwave in the 2023 harvest.
This does give me very bad expectations for the future, as quite many, especially whites, are phenolicallly overripe already …. just look at the Macon’s.
BIG WARNING for this problem
