Gratifying!
I do sometimes feel the agony of being a bit player in a big and very expensive Burgundy play.
I have, however, chosen my trade, and I must do tribute to the choices and fine moments it brings.
One thing sometimes nags me: My current financial inability to buy the top end, or even the good 1ers crus of my beloved Burgundy.
But this is how it is, and while I am not feeling short-changed, something is missing on the table.
Blessed
A few weeks back I was in the fine company of two Danish restaurateurs enjoying a selection of wines, some non-Burgundian and some from my hallowed turf.
Suddenly we had a wine blind that thrilled all my senses. It was vivid, lively and hedonistically complex.
I was blasted by the joy and grace (or blinded by the light; h/t Springsteen) of Burgundy!
It was not a wine of big terroir depth – I actually voted for a village. It was, however, a delightful generic Bourgogne that truly thrilled my palate and senses. This 2017 offered such joy and smiles, so much satisfaction, the I wanted another bottle – or even a cask!
I was happy that I guessed the producer (something I rather rarely do), and it was a treat to enjoy this wine in such cheerful company.
Summing up: This is why I recommend Fourrier, and why it often is vin d’émotion … for me at least.
See you!
