I shouldn’t. I really shouldn’t. We all do it – and perhaps should do it more! Two 2018s and a magnum of ’07; oh yes, also a 2017 – naughty me! And this is purely for leisure…
Summer wines are casual, and for drinking with no remorse: Taste and drink with pleasure and joy rather than thinking of value and future potential. Wines should be there to enjoy without consideration or financial speculations – casual summer wines!
The Domaine Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée Clos du Chateau 2018 is more than vivid; it’s an explosion of energy, and a perfect example of the best qualities of the otherwise quite dense ’18 vintage. Very energetic and expressive, it shows a huge complexity of Vosne spices. The palate is lively and vivid, and with no sign of the 2018 inkiness, it demonstrates the best qualities of this beautiful village. The special Clos du Chateau spiciness is definitely there, along with dried peony and rose leaves and cinnamon. There are hints of strawberries on the palate. This is fairly decadent, and I like decadence.
(Drink from 2031) – Fine (92p) – tasted twice –
