The next interesting 1er cru on the list is the Vosne-Romanée Beaux Mont of Domaine Jean-Grivot – one of the very best 1er crus of this fine estate.
Grivot has a vast lineup of very, very good 1er crus and Grand Crus … one of the most impressive in Vosne-Romanée and Burgundy as a whole.
The wines are silky and elegant, and there is a nice hedonistic joy in many of these wines. They are elegant and quite ripe (relatively late harvest) – they have their style with a slight sweet note on the palate. The Grivot style is sometimes prominent … but sometimes you can be very surprised if you taste Aux Reignots from Grivot against the wine from Comte Liger-Belair. The Grivot do very well tête-à-tête.
Domaine Jean Grivot Les Beaux Monts
Les Beaux Monts is one of the stars of the Grivot portfolio, and one of the best premier crus of Vosne-Romanée… with a couple of top 1er competing … the best part of Aux Reignots, the bottom part of Petit Monts and of course the legendary Cros Parantoux.
It is always a struggle to make maps over the borderline between Vosne and Flagey-Echezeaux … very difficult as it appears that a part of Echezeaux was mistakenly seen as Beaux Mont Bas and not Echezeaux… how this can happen I dont know, but Cécile Tremblay was presumably quite thrilled when she discovered her new plot in Ecehzeaux!
With the new Burgundy Atlas it’s easier to play around with the maps … so here we go with the Les Beaux Monts of Grivot.
Firstly, we have a map that shows me the location of Les Beaux Monts – 11,5 ha at an altitude of 293 m.
Vineyard both in Vosne and Flagey-Echezeaux, so quite some complex borders in this appellation.
