To find Bérèche et Fils Brut Réserve as a by-the-glass wine at the local restaurant (Cabotte) on a hot summer-day lunch is an unusual treat.
Bérèche Brut is a bit on the rich side (6 gr/L) but with a lovely freshness and delightful tension. This bottle was tasted as a nachspeise …. Two glasses and a further 2 for the road were enough for me to go home and take a nap. Lovely rich fruit with quite sweet notes of honey and dried fruits that alternate more with pungent tones of berries. The palate is vivid and clean with a lovely tension. It’s savory, very fresh, and balanced. Quite long finish. Just drinking tremendously well. Ohhh yes, I love Béreche … ❤️❤️

Wine: Bérèche et Fils Brut Réserve

A note to the note
Please note the state of the wine is evaluated as tasted … in this case, different fills. The freshness of the sample can explain why the wine, in some cases, disappoints. If the by-the-glass wine is disappointing … and if you, as a producer of the wine is unhappy … please make sure that your wines are well preserved and fresh when sold from the restaurant.
By the glass and prices
When I moved to Burgundy 5 years ago decent or even good by the bottled wines were served at 30 EUR ta the restaurants.
This is rarely the case these days … 50 EUR is more the norm, and this does push the costumers away from wine or from buying a bottle of wine. This is where the “by the glass” market have its purpose although its far from cheap or without issues.
The markup in all chains of the wine market are very high … and you are paying my friend. Enjoy the good wines … and flip the finger to the rest!
