Rosé is the drink of the summer … and especially the summer of 2026; cold drinks are needed. Some are too fine and classy to drink a rosé; others love it, if it’s good enough. Domaine Ott Romassan is in my book the best there is of the still rosés – and if you need more class you will have to go for the bubbles from Champagne. The Domaine Ott Romassan 2023 is a treat … slightly on the decadently sweet side … I normally prefer my Ott a bit more structured and fresh.
The Château Romassan rosé 2023 is a magnificent, quite mineral-driven Bandol. Chilled, it has a lovely, almost German, limestony minerality reflecting the soil of limestone, sandstone and sandy marl. Would prefer it with a year or two more on the back, and it shall definitely be served really cold. The nose has hints of citrus fruits, an ever-so-slight whiff of pine needles, and fruit giving raspberries and wild strawberries. On the palate, red forest berries and pink grapefruit. A refined and elegant wine and generous for a Ott. As always slightly decadent – I do like this … ❤️(❤️)

A note to the note
Please note the state of the wine is evaluated as tasted … in this case a full bottle. The freshness of the sample can explain why the wine, in some cases disappoint. If the by-the-glass wine is disappointing … and if you, as a producer of the wine is unhappy … please make sure that your wines are well preserved and fresh when sold from the restaurant.
By the glass and prices
When I moved to Burgundy 5 years ago decent or even good by the bottled wines were served at 30 EUR ta the restaurants.
This is rarely the case these days … 50 EUR is more the norm, and this does push the costumers away from wine or from buying a bottle of wine. This is where the “by the glass” market have its purpose although its far from cheap or without issues.
The markup in all chains of the wine market are very high … and you are paying my friend. Enjoy the good wines … and flip the finger to the rest!
