Back in the early 1990s Dominique Laurent became known for producing wines with 200% new oak … a talk of town in Copenhagen, and even though the rather brutal handling of the juice seemed to be offputting … the wines actually often turned out surprisingly good after some time after bottling…
Today Domaine Laurent is however much more easy going extraction and oak wise, and the estate has a fine and interesting portfolio of wines.
The collection of vineyards is large and with some real interesting gems among the terrorirs …
The estate Domaine Laurent Père Et Fils is run by Jean Laurent and backed by his father Dominique Laurent. The style is very much revised and now we have elegant and refined wines that should be more well-known amongst the collectors of Burgundy …

The Bourgogne is fresh and vivid with a cool temperament … but still with an edge. Rather elegant .. old wines does give something extra on the palate in 2023 where yields otherwise can be too high.

The Vignots has lovely fresh fruit… effortless and lively. A delicate treat with a nice and lovely feel. Not super exciting (less will do) .. but drinking well.

A Cuvee based on four different terroirs …. including the Les Herbues. Very fine notes refined .. intense and elegant – on the red side of NSG and without the extracted tendencies one often sees. Very enjoyable.

The Grande Vignes is showing well … but perhaps a bit darker than ideal. Quite some reduction but with good energy. Difficult when the phenolics are on the border …. on the balance here and will give you a treat nevertheless.

The Chambolle has a different gear. Quite Cool and mineral-driven. From the plot next to Mugnier in the valley. Very lively fruit …delicately floral. Love the tension on the midpalate.

Slight reduction … but with a very deep fruit. Have this orange note often found in old massale Gevreys. Very good concentration and beautiful energy and tension.

Vines planted in 1898 … 120 years old! Is silky and with a lovely tension …. intense yet just juicyly elegant and extremely lively … an adorable feel of effortlessness. A unique wine … love it to bits! fantastic livelyness – treat yourself!
