The Michelin Guide entering the world of wine put focus on one of the peculiarities of wine ratings … the missing ratings.

I think that most wine journalists have winemakers or producers that will not receive them …. for different reasons … some I am sure for valid reasons … others just coincidence and pure timing. It can be difficult to get on the list these days!
This is why some obvious candidates are missing from the lists … presumably also the Michelin ratings.
This can sometimes be confused with a “not liking the wine” … and other times it’s just a bad match of calendars.
I don’t normally comment on the vignerons that I don’t want to visit due to quality and stylistic dislikes … I focus on what I like, and try not to comment on the producers I don’t find so interesting.
But to shed a bit of light, I have the following producers normally missing from my tastings.
Producers not normally tasted by Winehog
Domaine Rousseau in Gevrey-Chambertin
Domaine Georges Roumier in Chambolle-Musigny
Domaine Leroy and d’Auvernay
I want to visit (if you have time), and on rare occasions I have visited Rousseau and Roumier. They make great wines, and I normally love the wines. Mme Bize-Leroy goes without saying an obvious goal for every wine geek … but I do understand this is missing from my tasting lists.
Furthermore I have
Charles Lachaux and Domaine Arnaud-Lachaux … they don’t currently receive journalists. But we have a nice dialogue regarding this – and I respect their decision – I do try every year … just to be sure nothing has changed.
Domaine Bizot sometimes is on my list … and like the other wines mentioned above, I would love to visit. They are all top-end estates that ideally should be included.
Unadulterated
I try not to visit producers that make poor wines … it happens very rarely that I taste these producers, and I am very happy not to write negative stuff about their wines.
