Domaine Duroché is one of the rising stars of Gevrey-Chambertin – as Pierre Duroché has increased the quality of the wines significantly within the latest vintages – the 2014s are lovely, the 2015s are magnificent and the 2016s are perhaps even more impressive.
Pierre Duroché is a lucky vigneron as he is blessed with some lovely terroirs including large holdings in Laveaux St. Jacques, and plots in Charmes Chambertin, Laticières-Chambertin and a miniscule plot in Griotte-Chambertin.
The top wine of the estate is however from the mighty Chambertin Clos de Bèze … a wine with more power, depth and mineral intensity than the other fine cuvées.
Style wise Duroché is producing a rather elegant and refined Clos de Bèze – a wine to look for – hence also a wine for a terroir Insight – so lets go to Clos de Bèze.
The vineyard Chambertin Clos de Bèze
Chambertin Clos de Bèze is located between Gevrey-Chambertin and Morey-Saint-Denis – more specifically between the Grand Crus Mazis-Chambetin and Le Chambertin – see map below.
This is a large vineyard – in total 15.40 ha, divided between 16 owners according to Jasper Morris.
