The “tyre guide” has just released its new rating of the wine producers in Burgundy. A lot of expected heroes, and then some candidates are missing.
Knowing the different critics, it’s pretty clear that this list has been heavily influenced by William Kelley … and for this I like the initiative …. I like the slightly provocative stance of William … and his humorous distance from things in the wine business. He is one of a kind …
I don’t always agree with William Kelley, but I respect his views … but we also have different audiences and purposes in writing and rating. By the way, I respect Jasper, Meadows and Neal Martin equally and for different reasons … the Suckling not so much!
My purpose is not mainly promoting the big names … it’s finding new names and talents to the benefit of the wine drinkers – where the tyre guide is not the one for the private jets.

William Kelley has some producers missing from the lists, as have I. This is how life is … some you miss, others you don’t.
I don’t taste Arnoux Lachaux anymore via the Domaine, but taste the wines from different sources … It takes time to build the same knowledge as I had when I was tasting until 2021. I will get there with my conclusions on the Ceramic wines.
I rarely taste Roumier and Rousseau … on the estates … but taste the wines otherwise. They are all great wines … and I presume that people can live without my annual view.
These lists are the views of a critic or a group of critics … nothing more and nothing less. I don’t really like anonymous group efforts, as I think a consensus taste and palate is a joke as a concept and idea.
I sadly don’t have a tyre company as a backing… and secondly and primarily – my purpose with these lists is promoting Vin d’emotion and not only the very best and expensive wines. Promoting Domaine Leroy is, I am sure, a treat … but hardly needed …
Stay with the Winehogs Vin d’émotion lists until we get a sponsor … imagine the Goodyear Stars or the Pirelli Favourites …
