Back in Fixin …. actually, this is my second visit to Fixin this fall. Not impressive, I know, but a serious cold prevented me from attending the open domaine event in Fixin this weekend.
I like a well-made Fixin, but also feel that many estates here still have issues in judging the oak level … sometimes, it reminds me more of a Hospices de … auction with full toasting. Sorry, this is not for me.
Background
I have followed Amélie Berthaut since the beginning when she started at the parents’ domaines in Fixin and Vosne-Romanée.
Amélie Berthaut has taken over the vineyards of Domaine Berthaut in Fixin from her father’s side and two-thirds of her mother’s family’s vineyards from Domaine Gerbet in Vosne-Romanée. Nicolas Faure, Amélie’s husband, works as vineyard manager at Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet, so a top team is in place to produce great wines.
These are hard-working people, and their dedication is paying off in lovely and ever-improving wines.
The 2024s are very well made with the oak judged perfectly in almost all wines. The higher capacity of the chai is really starting to show (though the vintage was very small) – would love to see a higher share of whole cluster even in bigger years.
Notes from tasting the 2024s
The wines were tasted on November 26th, 2025
Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet Hautes Côtes de Nuits 2024
The Hautes Côtes de Nuits is close to home for Amélie Berthaut, as she lived in Vosne-Romanée as a child. The vineyards are in the hills behind Vosne, but make no mistake: With climate change, this rocky area moving west from Vosne into the Hautes Côtes and the village of Concoeur produces very good wines. I really enjoyed the 2024 despite the season and the conditions … love the freshness.
(Drink From 2026) – Very Good (87p) – ![]()
Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet Fixin Crais 2024
The Crais is showing quite well, with the oak well judged. Ok, let’s face it … Crais is my favourite vineyard in Fixin (not the best though), but Amélie has had some issues with the oak. Now, it’s almost there. I’m looking forward to tasting this wine.

Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet Fixin En Combe de Roy 2024

Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet Fixin Arvelets 2024
François oak and Fixin … normally, not my favourite, but in 2024, this works very well. Oak is well integrated, and the darker tones are largely avoided.
(Drink From 2032) – Very Good (89p) – ![]()
Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet Vosne-Romanée 2024
A classic Vosne (mainly Réas). It has a fine pure fruit – delicate and unfolds some red and dark fruits … Vosne spices. What more could you ask for?
(Drink From 2030) – Very Good (89p) – ![]()
Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet Gevrey-Chambertin Combe de Dessus 2024
A lovely wine 40% whole cluster … open and lively …
(Drink From 2029) – Very Good (89p) – ![]()
Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux St. Jacques 2024
The Lavaux comes from a nice plot in the northern part of the vineyard (see more here). It’s a cool and vivid wine with a lovely and complex midpalate fruit. What a treat … Lavaux always seems to deliver.
(Drink From 2032) – Fine (93p) – ![]()
