The 2021 vintage is in many ways a positive surprise, as its energy level, and the vivacity of the wines, really shine through in numerous cases.
Alix Millot at Domaine Jean-Marc Millot has made the most of 2021, and has produced truly delightful wines that are good family entertainment you can trust! ☺️
Alix has improved her wines’ quality significantly in recent years, adding precision and depth without sacrificing any of their hedonistic qualities.
I don’t think the Millot 2021s quite live up to the unique and fabulous 2019s, but they do have a lot of sparkling energy going for them. Not bad; not bad at all.
Let’s go to Domaine Millot!
Domaine Jean-Marc Millot Bourgogne Rouge 2021
The Bourgogne rouge is a classic vin de soif – quite light-footed, and with nice balance. Not a substantial wine like the 2019 or the 2020, but more in line with what one would expect from a Burgundy at this level.
(Drink from 2023) – Good (86p) – Tasted 11/07/2022
Domaine Jean-Marc Millot Côte de Nuits Village 2021
The Côte de Nuits Village is from very old vines that give it good balance and ripeness. It has the classical characteristics and appeal of the 2021 vintage, with more weight and intensity than the generic Bourgogne. I do like the wines from the Comblanchien/Corgoloin area.
(Drink from 2023) – Good+ (87p) – Tasted 11/07/2022 –
Domaine Jean-Marc Millot Côte de Nuits Village Le Vaucrain 2021
The Côte de Nuits Vaucrain is a 100% whole-cluster wine, and furthermore very low on sulphur. It’s a relatively new trial from Millot, creating a wine with a different aroma profile and drinkability. A true vin de soif that includes whole-cluster spices like cinnamon, and a slightly stemmy note. Different; but I like it!
(Drink from 2023) – Very Good (87-88p) – Tasted 11/07/2022 –
Domaine Jean-Marc Millot Côte de Nuits Village Aux Falques
Aux Falques is located in the centre of Comblanchien (more about the terroir here). This, when it is singing, is a truly fine glass. The 2021 is lighter and fresher than the previous vintages, where the alcohol levels were above 14%. It is delicate, intense, and quite refined.
(Drink from 2026) – Very Good (88p) – Tasted 11/07/2022 –
Domaine Jean-Marc Millot Savigny-les-Beaune 2021
Again this year – it pains me to say – the Savigny-les-Beaune is not my favourite in this line-up. Let’s start with the positive side: It’s surprisingly vivid and juicy. It does however have a slight – reductive? – note that irritates my sensory system. Perhaps it will blow off.
(Drink from 2027) – Good+ (87-88p) – Tasted 11/07/2022
