My second visit at Domaine Y. Clerget … on a very hot June day in Pommard.
Thibaud was just coming from the vineyard, where the vines were growing like there was no tomorrow …
I was very exited to taste the 2016s after tasting the 2015s earlier this year. The 2015 vintage was the first for Thibaud Clerget – and the first vintage for the estate since the 2009s, as Thibauds father sold of the grapes to a negociant in the period 2010 to 2014.
I really liked the 2015s … but was this a one off? … could Thibaud repeat the succes?, and could he perhaps even improve the style and quality? – the questions were many.
It’s impossible to evaluate an estate after just one vintage – and even after two years one should be very careful. I do however feel that Thibaud Clerget have found something special in his wines … a lovely energy, a juicyness and a effortless drinkability for these appellations. The wines are vivacious and elegant and with a fine intensity and concentration – they are beautifully balanced in other words.
I do somehow think that the 2016 vintage suits Pommard and Volnay better than 2015 – the 2015s are bigger wines, but I do like the vibrant freshness the 2016 vintage has brought to the wines.
This is also the case at Domaine Y. Clerget – where a more delicate and refined side of Thibauds wines are brought forward. In other words … delightful 2016s from Domaine Y. Clerget!

The 2016s are cooler and more vibrant than the excellent 2015 made here.
