Domaine Robert Groffier is located in Morey-Saint-Denis, as the neighbour of Domaine Clos de Tart.
The estate, however, have no vineyards in Morey, and most of the vineyards are located in the Chambolle Musigny appellation with substantial holdings of Les Amoureuses (largest owner) and of Bonnes Mares – almost one hectare of this fine Grand Cru.
There is however one prominent wine missing above – the somewhat overlooked Chambertin Clos de Bèze – together with the Bonnes Mares the top cuvée of the estate.
I have only tasted this wine once and certainly not recently, but since I’m looking at Clos de Bèze at large – it seems obvious to take a closer look at the plots, where Nicolas Groffier produce his fine Chambertin Clos de Bèze.
The vineyard Chambertin Clos de Bèze
Chambertin Clos de Bèze is located between Gevrey-Chambertin and Morey-Saint-Denis – more specifically between the Grand Crus Mazis-Chambetin and Le Chambertin – see map below.
This is a large vineyard – in total 15.40 ha, divided between 16 owners according to Jasper Morris.
