Visit to Domaine Roulot – tasting the 2018s

Traditions are to be cherished, and these emotional anchors are important in the current world of chaos and covid.

We are indeed living in a changing world, and as we try to adapt, the delightful sensation of a sip of Clos des Boucheres is is a joyful, hedonistic blessing one should savour.

It is for me increasingly important to find the inner core – the soul, if you will – of wines that offer special hedonistic pleasures, and that are vins d`émotion.

When the world was still open

I was in Burgundy just when Europe was starting to close down, and we had the opportunity to visit Domaine Roulot to taste the latest vintage, the vivid 2018s

Jean-Marc Roulot was in a cheerful mood, having just returned from the 20-year-jubilee Paulée in New York. He was one of the founding vignerons two decades ago, promoting Burgundian wines alongside top growers like Lafon and Roumier.

The Roulot 2018s

The 2018s are rich and slightly voluptuous. But the generous yields have somehow given them focus and refinement, and kept the weight and velvety intensity at an agreeable level.

The 2018s are more delicate and airy than the generous 2015s, and they offer more refinement. Lightfooted? Perhaps not. But they do have an agreeable tone that makes them at once drinkable and elegant.
