Bouchard Pere et Fils has done very well in 2019, and both the reds and whites seem to have drawn on the strengths of the vintage.
Bouchard does not necessarily produce the most extroverted and flamboyant wines. Therefore, a year like 2019 can be a match made in heaven for the venerable producer, as the energetic spark of the vintage kicks some extra life into the Bouchard wines.
The energy in both reds and whites is evident in the Bouchard wines – although the reds perhaps shine more than the whites. That said, I think its whites deserve much acclaim. I tasted the wines from tank and vat.

Bouchard Pere et Fils Bourgogne Blanc 2019
Let me just say that the Bourgogne Blanc left me flabbergasted and rather shocked. I often, if not always, find it a good middle-of-the-road wine – 300,000 bottles are produced. But the 2019 is simply bursting with energy and mid-palate liveliness -relative to an average year, that is. It’s slightly reduced, and has some fine, balancing exotic notes. It’s not a grand cru, but it has lots of hedonistic intensity and joy. Chapeau to the Bouchard team. Well done!

Bouchard Pere et Fils Beaune 2019
A new, very promising wine from re-grafted vines at the southern end of Beaune – village plot Les Prévoles. this is vivid and lively, with good energy in the mid-palate fruit, which is pure and very clear. A lesser wine than the Beaune du Chateau, in the end this is the better wine somehow, as the definition of the fruit is more distinct and the link to the terroir clearer. This is a very interesting, graceful wine.
