This is a brilliant vintage, and the liveliness of 2019 suits the Bouchard Pere et Fils style very well indeed, its slight reserve being boosted by the year’s vivid acidity and energy. These are a treat.

Tasting notes – Bouchard Pere et Fils red 2019s
I was delightfully pleased and even surprised by the high quality of the 2019 reds, which just underlines the greatness of the vintage. Now, to the notes!
Bouchard Pere et Fils Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2019
The Bourgogne Pinot Noir is really showing well – it’s very fresh and has a vivid nose. Only 5% new oak equates to a lively, enjoyable wine of very high quality when one considers the number of bottles produced.
(Drink from 2021) – Good – (85-86p) – Tasted 04/03/2021 from cask
Bouchard Pere et Fils Beaune 2019
The Beaune is a relatively new product, and comes from the lieu-dit Les Prévoles, just below Les Tuvilains. This is a precise, fresh wine, with cherries and boysenberries showing an enjoyable, light-footed side of Beaune. It is certainly lighter than the Beaune du Chateau, but agreeable and more precise.
(Drink from 2027) – Good+ – (87 – 88p) – Tasted 04/03/2021 from cask –
Bouchard Pere et Fils Savigny-les-Beaune Les Lavieres 2019
The Savigny-les-Beaune is showing good depth, with intense yet beautiful tannins. It has fine fruit, and the 30% whole-cluster inclusion gives the wine a lovely, forward attitude. The 2019 vintage does suit Bouchard very well indeed.
(Drink from 2027) – Very Good – (88p) – Tasted 04/03/2021 from cask
Bouchard Pere et Fils Beaune du Chateau 1er cru 2019
The Beaune du Chateau is quite a step up in weight from the previous wines. The bouquet is very expressive and quite forward, its red and dark fruit notes spiced with classic earthy Beaune minerality. Yet it’s somehow getting squeezed by both the Beaune village and Clos de la Mousse, as these are more precise and purely fruited to my taste. That being said, this is one of the best Beaune du Chateau I have tasted – 2019 is that good.
(Drink from 2025) – Very Good+ – (88-89p) – Tasted 04/03/2021 from cask
Bouchard Pere et Fils Beaune Les Teurons 2019
Les Teurons is from the warmer part of Beaune for Bouchard. Rich and deep, with blueberries and dark cherries, this shows a significant level of whole clusters. Made with a light hand, and will provide good drinking.
(Drink from 2024) – Very Good+ – (89-91p) – Tasted 04/03/2021 from cask
