Domaine Bernard & Thierry Glantenay is one of at least two Glantenay estates in Volnay … saying at least to be sure that I dont have one more hiding in the Volnay hills. The other being Domaine Georges Glantenay located in the core of the village just below the church.
This reminds me … next time you are in Volnay you should take a walk in the village to explore .. its a very charming place located on this rather steep hill.
On the way to the top of the hill we find Domaine Bernard & Thierry Glantenay an estate that these days are managed by Thierry Glantenay.
A bit of history
Thierry took over from his father approximately 15 years ago back when most of the production was sold to négociants. Today the full production is sold as domaine bottlings. This is an old family domaine with the family having over 500 years of history with the vines in Volnay.
Volnay and the hot years
The good producers like Thierry normally keep the ripeness and alcohol levels down in the hot years, as the Volnay vineyards easily produce 14% + in alcohol level in warm years like 2018.
Sometimes one will not notice this at first .. but with age it will not benefit the wines to be brutally honest. It is therefore important to keep an eye at the alcohol in the 2018s and other hot years – when you are buying Volnay.
Thierry has kept the ripeness at appropriate levels in 2018 – with only one or two wine that is on the high side alcohol wise.

Nick M says
Probably my favourite producer in Volnay, within a village that has become perhaps the most exciting on the entire cote.
They also age brilliantly – a 1985 Chenes bought at auction was fabulous, and although Thierry has moved on from his father’s methods, the essence of what he does is pretty much the same.
Quietly confident vigneron who is totally in his groove and allows each vintage to express itself naturally and generously.
