This recognition is given for the work done by a young and talented vigneron who gives us more hedonistic wines—vive vin d`émotion.
While find the work of young vignerons like Théo Dancer and Charles Lachaux truly admirable, these well-known producers already have the complete attention of the wine world. Furthermore, they have plenty of great vineyards with which to express themselves.
Nevertheless, they fight every day to make better wines and develop viticulture. They have my full support in their work and fight despite Burgundian envy and gossip.
Finding new talents, new vignerons and wines is, however, one of the main objectives of the Winehog. Everything should be a question of passion and the love of hedonistic wines … vin d`émotion … the Flavour of the Year should embrace this.
Additionally, the vigneron should be relatively new, producing some of their first vintages and not be an established vigneron. Young, small, négociants and estates do not have the same exposure or access to noble terroirs, though their efforts are just as admirable and enjoyable.
As something new, I include wines from all over the world … as vin d`émotion should not be limited to Burgundy and France.
And the winner is
This year, the candidates were Domaine Maxime Dubuet-Boillot, Domaine du Puy de l’Ours and last but not least, Benjamin Benoit – Le Cellier Saint-Benoit.
And yes, we look to Jura this year – a surprise to many – even myself.
The Winehog Flavour of the Year award is for these young and/or new talents.
Benjamin Benoit – Le Cellier Saint-Benoit
Flavour of 2024
The 2024 Flavour of the Year award goes to Benjamin Benoit – Le Cellier Saint-Benoit for his fabulous red wines in recent vintages.
Benjamin Benoit is in my view. A brilliant winemaker, making both very interesting whites and some extremely hedonistic reds from Pinot Noir and the other local grape varieties: Ploussard and Trousseau. Mark my words … this is a legendary winemaker in spe.
