Prices, awards … perhaps it’s in the end all self-branding and nice words! – however I do find it gratifying to promote new and talented estates and people.
So i have decided to start a new Winehog Award called the “Flavour of the year” an award I will give to new and talented producers in the greater Burgundy.
The 2018 flavour of the year award goes to Domaine Moron-Garcia in Nuits-Saint-Georges – for wines from the 2017 vintage.
The motivation is that Moron-Garcia produce vivid, energetic wines with character and substance. The wines has a lovely complexity and a style quite unique for the estate, and the wines are made with refinement and a lovely expression of terroir. The wines do have quite some substance and do have more weight and depth than quite many modern wines of Burgundy today.
More info on Moron-Garcia can be found here
Previous and future winners
This is a new award … and therefore there are no older winners … but estates like Chantereves, Nicolas Faure and Domaine Thomas Collardot in Puligny-Montrachet would indeed have been favourites for the “flavour of the year” – as will Domaine Marthe Henry Boillot perhaps be when we get some more bottled wines from her.

- Terroir Insight: Domaine Leroy Corton-CharlemagneBeyond elusive … not even in my dreams. The red grands crus of Domaine Leroy and Domaine d’Auvenay are both very rare and very costly, but the whites are even further away from the snout of the Winehog. - New updates of Vineyard articlesThe Winehog began in 2011 and this means that some of the articles are getting a bit old and rusty. The vineyards are still more or less the same, but there are in some cases changes in ownership and the people working at the estates. I have therefore decided to do a fall update of these ...
- 10 full years with DiamWhile the tests of Diam started at the beginning of the 2000s, the expansive use started in 2013 with Comte Lafon, in 2014 with Domaine Leflaive and Olivier Lamy in 2015 … 10 years ago … and things seem to work very well indeed from a premox perspective. 20 years since the start in Burgundy Bouchard Père ...
- Terroir Insight: Domaine Armand Rousseau ChambertinTwo words – Rousseau and Chambertin – expectations are building up, great wine ahead. While Domaine Armand Rousseau is a legendary estate in Burgundy, the history of the family holdings on Chambertin is rather limited seen in a Burgundian timeframe, as the ownership dates back to the early 1920s. Three great people, Armand Roussau, Charles Rousseau and ...
