Visit Domaine Georges Noëllat – tasting of the 2016s from Cask

Domaine Georges Noëllat is one of my favourite estates these days – and it seems like Maxime Cheurlin is improving year after year. Wines are getting more detailed and the integration of the oak has improved over the years and is now seamless.

Maxime and his neighbour Sebastien Cathiard are really upping the game – and they are now among the best producers in Vosne-Romanée and really challenging the “older” and in some cases more prominent estates.

It’s always a treat to taste wines at Domaine George Noëllat while overlooking La Tâche – it must be the best view in Vosne-Romanée.

Maxime seems very happy with his 2016s, although sad that he lost quite a lot to the April frost. But in general seems like it’s difficult to be too disappointed with a nice sizeable harvest in the 2017 vintage.

Always nice to hear what Maxime have to say about the vintage and the wines – he is very direct and do not try to “sell” the vintage – he has a fine no bullshit approach – that I really appreciate. In the end the truth is eventually always in the glass anyhow.
