It is always a treat and a great pleasure to visit Thibault Morey … as there is a zen-like balance and tranquillity over this estate … nothing forced but wines made like nature intended them – it seems.
I am of course back at Domaine Morey-Coffinet tasting the elegant wines from the prime vineyards of Chassagne-Montrachet …

The 2024 vintage is a great vintage in my view, even better than anyone expected, I think.
The harvesting window was presumably better than the previous hot vintages – mainly thinking of 2023, where some wines were rather cooked in the phenolics.
The 2024 is a much cooler vintage, and the phenolics are in many cases close to perfect, and some are perhaps on the slightly underriper side.
In general, Thibault Morey is spot on, and this is for me the best vintage I have tasted in the almost 10 years I have visited this beautiful estate. Great cheers and a hurray to all at Domaine Morey-Coffinet … such beautiful and effortless hedonistic treats.
Amazing that such beautiful wines could come from this rather mediocre year and difficult climate. The whites from 2024 are, in general, a huge positive surprise with unique qualities.
The year 2024 was wet and relatively cold, and left the vignerons with a lot of problems where mildew and pouriture gris were the worst. The whites seem to have escaped the worst, and those who have sorted well have produced some beautiful whites … both Chardonnay and Aligoté.
The alcohol level is relatively low … often low to mid 12% … and then boosted to 12,8 – 13,2% with the sugar (chaptalisation).
The ripeness is on spot, or a bit below phenolic-wise… and yes, in theory, some could feel that the phenolics should be a bit riper on average … but I am not sure I agree.
These years we have too many whites tasting like sweet Chardonnay fruit soup, with no tension and energy, just this dense yellow fruit … I must say I prefer the slightly underripe version found in some 2024.
The advantage in 2024 is furthermore a low alcohol level, that give the wines an effortless feel and harmonious style … as the high alcohol is not blocking the fine taste of the Chardonnay grapes … this is rare these days!
Let’s go to the detailed impressions. Tasting of bottled wines on March 19th 2026.
Domaine Morey-Coffinet Bourgogne Côte de Or 2024
The Bourgogne Blanc – now Côte d’Or is an effortless delight. Elegant and delicate with only 12,5% of alcohol. So relaxed, vivid and effortless with an almost zen-like calmness. What a treat!
