Sometimes it requires help from the other side of the globe to get a clear view on your neighbours … and none better than my good Leica friend Chua Yang hailing from Singapore.
My neighbour Pascal Machcand has been a driving force in Burgundy for the last 40 years – a legendary vigneron who is still evolving his winemaking after all these years. First and foremost however, Pascal and his son Odilon are my very good neighbours in Nuits-Saint-Georges. Always ready to discuss the progress in the cellar and the vineyards. Always a chance to taste the latest vintage from cask and even from bottle on a regular basis. The Marchand-Tawse lineup is very extensive and covers the whole of Burgundy – a truly strong reference point for my work. Both Odilon and Pascal are open and very friendly and have, since the beginning, made me feel welcome in Nuits-Saint-Georges… despite my geekiness and peculiarities. This is indeed an open-minded estate … a quite unique to have friends like this in Burgundy.
