The Domaine Ponsot Chapelle Chambertin 1998 showed a bit of bottle variation .. or should I say perceived bottle variation. It has quite a lot of very finely grained sediment (dust) and I think this influenced the perception of the wine. Two bottles were tasted and there were quite some dust in the first, while the second wine was pretty clear – the note covers the second glass tasted. In the nose quite dark fruit – a bit closed but hints of sous-bois – slight iodine note presumably from the dust. On the palate relatively dark and weighty .. unfolds in the glass but still need some years in the cellar. Its long and intense and a bigger wine than the Griotte 1998. A bit austere .. and as usual I prefer the Griotte for pure pleasure.
(Drink From 2020) – Fine (90 – 91p) – Tasted 27/10/2015.
