A lovely surprice this summer, as I had the chance to visit Blair Pethel at Domaine Dublère to taste the 2017s from cask.
Blair was actually quite eager to taste the new vintage .. a very good sign to be honest … lovely wines in progress.
After very good quality in 2015 and 2016 the 2017s finally produce both quality and yield .. so quite understandable that Blair was exited about the new vintage.
I was very glad that I had the opportunity to taste the 2017s at this early stage – to see what I have waiting for me later this year. I do have a good feeling of the 2017s.
A little background on Domaine Dublère
A little background – Domaine Dublère was founded in 2003 by the American journalist Blair Pethel. The first vintage was 2004, and the estate has since gradually expanded the production and the portfolio of wines.
Domaine Dublère now makes quite a large a selection of both white and red Burgundies – all of very high quality given the individual appellation. All the wines are very pure, intense, quite light-footed and with a precise and transparent expression of the terroir.
Notes from tasting June 5th 2018
The red 2017s from Domaine Dublère are fruity and cheerful – wines with a lovely spiret and friendly nature.
These are wines for drinking … with a lovely hedonistic side. While the 2015s and the 2016s have other .. perhaps more serious sides .. the 2017 are pure enjoyment – and to be honest – it works very well indeed!
Domaine Dublère, Les Grand Terres Rouges 2017
A fine and forward wine with a good short term drinking potential. Lovely mid-palate fruit, good body and length and first and foremost a good energy. I do like the fruit in this wine ..
(Drink from 2019) – Above Average (83 – 84p)

Domaine Dublère, Chorey Les Beaune Les Maladerottes 2017
The Chorey Les Beaune Les Maladerottes 2016 – third vintage of this wine from the area located below the road i.e. across D974 from the Dublère estate. A lovely wine with a lively fruit. Fine acidity and a good mid-palate fruit – good promise for short to medium term drinking. Lovely expression of fruit ..

Domaine Dublère, Savigny-Les-Beaune 2017
More direct and vivid than the Talmettes – yet also fresh and direct with a lovely mid-palate fruit. The fruit is lush and vivid – quite sweet yet fresh … a lot of charm in this wine. A wine for drinking and enjoyment.
(Drink from 2019) – Good (85 – 86p)

Domaine Dublère, Savigny Les Beaune Les Talmettes 2017

Domaine Dublère, Morey-Saint-Denis Les Blanchards 2017
The Morey-Saint-Denis Blanchards 1er cru is very much a wine of pleasure – as usual one might add. The bouquet is charming and forward, and the wine is vivid and with a lovely complexity. On the palate fine depth and length … certainly a lovely wine for the mid-term drinking. Always enjoyed this wine .. also in the 2017 vintage.

Domaine Dublère, Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Bousselots 2017
The Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Bousselots is a lovely glass – not surprisingly. Les Bousselots offer a lot of drinking pleasure – and hedonistic treasure. The nose is brimming with fruit – lovely depth and intensity. On the palate good power and length, with an invigorating charm. This is a lovely wine!

Winehog – Recommendations
I really like the Dublère wines, and they do offer very good value and hedonistic pleasures and therefore they come highly recommended.
I do have some favorites in the 2017 vintage … the Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Bousselots is my main bottle in the lineup.
I do however also favour the two Volnays and the Savigny Les Beaune Les Talmettes – for it’s rather frisky style.
