The end of Domaine Sirugue as we know it is upon us, as the estate will split up over the coming years.
This sounds a bit unclear, but from the 2023 vintage the wines from the Sirugue estate will be sold under the Arnaud et Sophie label, and after five years under Arnaud (Sirugue) et Sophie’s (Noellat) management, Marie-France Sirugue’s daughter Marie-Paule Reynaud will claim her part of the family’s vineyards.
Starting this year, Arnaud Sirugue will make the wines alone, and they will be sold as negociant products from the Arnaud et Sophie business.
The wines are currently made by Arnaud and his father Jean-Louis, whose sister, the above-mentioned Marie-France Sirugue, will retire when Arnaud et Sophie takes over.
The Sirugue tasting on April 13
The 2021s are a fine match for the Sirugue style. It’s a vintage with excellent concentration and good freshness. This lightens the wines, and a reduced – although still noticeable – use of new oak permits more energy and tension.
Let’s taste!
Domaine Robert Sirugue Bourgogne Rouge 2021
The Bourgogne Rouge is showing generously. It is rich for its level, sweet almost, but with limited complexity. This drinks well, but does not rock the Côte, so to speak.
(Drink from 2024) – Good (86-87p) – Tasted 13/04/2023
Domaine Robert Sirugue Ladoix-Serrigny Buisson 2021
The Ladoix is a bit oakier, with a heavier toast. I would have preferred a lighter wood treatment, as the oak overwhelms the fine, cooler fruit of Ladoix. I made this same comment last year, so let’s see how well the oak integrates. Perhaps this will change with the new setup.
(Drink from 2024) – Good (85-86p) – Tasted 13/04/2023
Domaine Robert Sirugue Chambolle-Musigny Les Mombies 2021
The Chambolle Mombies comes from vines located near the RD 974 below the village. The 40-50% whole-cluster inclusion gives it an expressive, extroverted character, and the 30% new oak is well integrated. Still, it’s clear that Papa Sirugue likes his oak.
(Drink from 2028) – Very Good (89p) – Tasted 13/04/2023 –
