Vogüe week …. one of the treats of the year. Each year, Vinrosen, the Danish importer arrange a tasting of the new vintage from Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé.
The wines are presented by Jean-Luc Pepin the manager of Domaine de Vogüe – it’s a very fine tradition which began more than 12 years ago. All the Vogüé wines are served at this fine event – from the Bourgogne Blanc to the great Musigny.
Jean-Luc Pepin is always offering great insights about the vintage … presenting the wines with passion, knowledge and a charming sense of humor.
Overall impressions of the Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé 2014s
The 2014s tasted from bottle confirms the fine potential they showed from cask in November 2015 … offering beautiful and generous drinkability – build for hedonistic pleasure so to speak.
I’m very exited about the 2014s from Vogüé as they sort of reminds me of the lovely 2002s – one of my favorite vintages from this fine estate. The 2014s all have a lovely nerve and energy and the fruit is very juicy – the transparency is very fine as is the display of terroir. The wines offer great purity and a beautiful and charming expression of Chambolle. The 2014 are not powerhouses .. they excels in refinement and delicacy .. the kind of Burgundies I love to drink.
The 2014s are lovely wines that deserves your attention … although the can’t match the great 2010s, they will no doubt offer tremendous pleasure over the next decades … gorgeous wines.
Notes from the September 16th tasting at Restaurant Sommelier in Copenhagen
Tasting was held on a Flower day … and all the wines showed well … although the temperature was slightly on the high side for my palate.
Comte de Vogüé, Chambolle Musigny 2014
The Chambolle village is showing very well. The bouquet is offering a charming display of red and darker fruits … pomegranate, red currant, raspberries … pure and powered by a lovely minerality. On the palete very juicy and gratifying with a charming midpalate fruit and a fine transparency. The fruit is generous for this level and very delicate – offering a fine display of terroir. A lovely village in the making – even better than expected from cask.

Comte de Vogüé, Chambolle Musigny 1er cru 2014
The 1er cru is quite a step up in weight and intensity from the village – showing the pedigree of the magnificent Musigny terroir … although in a “teenage” version. It’s produced from the young vines on the mighty Musigny grand cru. The bouquet is quite forward and generous with loads of cool red fruit powered by a quite intense limestony minerality. The palate fullfils the promise made by the bouquet … layers of fine delicate red fruit – it’s pure, refined and charming. The powerful mineralic backbone and the juicy fruit is providing a lovely nerve and energy … a fine glass of Chambolle. It should be noted that Vogüé has reduced the producion of the 1er cru – as a quite large proportion of the vines now are old enough to supply fruit to the Musigny Vieilles Vignes … i.e. beyond 25 years of age

Comte de Vogüé, Les Amoureuses 2014
The 2014 Les Amoureuses is an explosion of minerality. In the bouquet delicate red fruit brought forward by a racy and filigree limestone minerality (Les Amoureuses is geologically 99% limestone). The nose is charmingly spiced with delicate notes of white peppar and white roses. On the palate gorgeous red fruit – lovely midpalate sweetness – notes of pomegranate is adding nerve and energy .. very focused and refined with it’s backbone of vivid limestony minerality. A truly magnificent Les Amoureuses … with a spirit and soul that almost defines the vineyard name.
(Drink from 2028) – Outstanding+ (94 – 95p) – Tasted 16/09/2016
Comte de Vogüé, Bonnes Mares 2014
The Bonnes Mares is showing a darker side of the Chambolle terroirs – but is nevertheless also decadently charming and juicy. In the nose vinous red and dark berry fruit – notes of raspberries, blueberries, dark cherries and underbrush. On the palate layers of cool and almost silky fruit – juicy and very zappy – with a lovely energy. The minerality is more earthy and less expressive than in the other wines, but this Bonnes Mares offer a beautiful nerve and tension. A both decadent and very charming Bonnes Mares. A bigger wine than Les Amoureuses … offering a lot of pleasure potential.

Comte de Vogüé, Musigny Vieilles Vignes 2014
The Musigny is a step up in quality – a magnificent wine in the making, that reminds me of the delightful 2002 Musigny that I cherish so much. In the nose layers of red and dark fruits – quite forward, airy with the powerful minerality providing nerve and energy. On the palate impressive depth with a lovely layered juicy red fruit on the midpalate. It’s a refined and delicate Musigny with a beautiful transparency, where the delicate fruit really compliments the mineral expression of the magnificent Musigny terroir. Is it rivalling the magnificent 2002? … only time will show!
(Drink from 2030) – Outstanding+++ (96 – 97p) – Tasted 16/09/2016
Comte de Vogüé, Bourgogne Blanc 2014
The Bourgogne Blanc – made from the Musigny vineyard – is a refined beauty – as are many 2014s whites. The nose is offering crystaline predominantly white orchard fruits – very pure and vibrant – supported by the intense Musigny minerality. On the palate tremendous balance between the powerful minerality, the cool juicy fruit and the fresh acidity – perhaps the most refined white Vogüé I have tasted so far. It does not have the unique and profound depth of the amazing 2013 version of this wine – this is more about refinement and delicacy … a tremendous wine.
(Drink from 2026) – Very Fine+ (93 – 95p) – Tasted 16/09/2016
Thanks to Jean-Luc Pepin and Vinrosen for the fine event … a great tradition.
