The 2002 Dugat-Py Le Chambertin is still quite youthful, but is starting to unfold somewhat. In the nose dark raspberry fruit supported by a deep earthy minerality – the nose is quite airy but not very complex. On the palate quite lightfooted – yet still concentrated. The level of extraction is relatively high … but not as bad as earlier vintages – but it’s not unfolding as well as other big wines of this vintage. While it’s not a bad wine … it’s rather strange to see that this wine is much more backward an unresolved than La Tâche, Roumier Bonnes-Mares, Vogüé Musigny. Not bad … but I’m not a fan.
