Making maps of Burgundian vineyards was a necessity when I began WineHog in 2011/2012 … it was what I had to do to get the writing flowing.
I started with the top vineyards and moved down to the other existing plots … great producers and with good plots.
This was hard work … and as you move down the order, the number of stories per vineyard decreases. A lot of vineyards have very little documented history.
I am always looking for the chance to explore new vineyards, and the new mapping options on the internet by Burgundy Atlas will render a lot of stories … if you know your vineyards.
The maps are not complete … yet … and changes and updates are not always implemented, as a lot of caveats that are teasing your mind.

I have been following this development, and I have started to use these new tools to a greater extent… as I don’t like to do all the hard work on the maps these days.
It’s the stories the maps tell that interest me, and therefore also this work that will have my focus.
If you like stories … check out the story of Duroche Lavaut-Chambertin and the story of Fourrier Goulot … there is a difference … and some vineyard deserves a special treat of winehog love.
The Fournier story is very much an IT-driven story, whereas the Duroche story is a normal, researched story demanding blood, sweat, and tears.
See you in the terroirs ….
