I have now tasted most of the white 2024s on my tasting program, and have been very pleased with the quality level, but also surprised by finding quite a few whites with a truly zen-like delicacy.
In general, 2024 was haunted by the wet and rainy conditions and mildew, but somehow some of the white made it through, and have given us some very delicate and elegant whites … whites that rate very high on my hedonistic scale … wow, they can be delicate, effortless and refined.
But why are some of the 2024s so elegant and refined? … almost contradicting the weather and growing conditions.
The alcohol level!
Global warming has pushed the alcohol up on both red and and whites. The alarm bells go off when the alcohol goes through 14% … this is when you really start to feel the alcohol … and feel the effects it has on the feel and appearance of the wines.
