Visiting Domaine Marc Roy is always a treat – even at 08:00 Friday morning. Alexandrine Roy really knows what she is doing, and she knows how to make and sell her wines: through quality, hedonism, joyfulness and charm.

Some history of the Marc Roy estate
Alexandrine is the fourth generation at the domaine. She is runs it alongside her father, Marc, who is still active in the vineyards.
The Roys may only produce village wines, but nevertheless, this is one of my favourite estates in Burgundy. They show that even serious collectors can find great pleasure from a village-level wine.
Alexandrine made her debut as the chief winemaker with the 2003 vintage. Over the years, she has refined her wines into some of the most vibrant, delicate Gevrey village wines made today. I was blown away the first time I tasted her wines, and my tasting each year subsequently confirms my passion for them.
Alexandrine makes four Gevrey village reds and a Marsannay blanc. All of them magnificent in their own way; they are pure, airy, and intense, but still quite light-footed and filigreed for the appellation.

Tasting the Marc Roy 2024s
A new vintage and a new expression of the lovely pinots from Alexandrine Roy. Somehow she always brings the best forward in the wines and this manifests itself in different ways in the red cuvées.
2024 was and somehow still is a challenging vintage for most … the low yields due to flowering and then later a serious season with loads of mildew.
Alexandrine was not severely challenged by the mildew, and in general, the grapes were sound chez Marc Roy. A very small estate does offer the possibility to nurture the vineyards, thus preventing things like mildew from getting out of hand.
The 2024 is a cool vintage and the wines are cooler and more classic than 2022, 2023 and 2025. The short elevage at Domaine Marc Roy leaves the wines with a fresh and vivid fruit … and this really suits the vintage, to be honest.
I don’t really think that 2024 should endure a hard extraction and long elevage to boost the wines … leave them fruity and forward …

Domaine Marc Roy Marsannay Blanc 2024
The Marsannay Les Champs Perdrix Blanc is located at the southern end of Couchey at the top of the slope. This location ensures fine acidity that provides a lovely vividness in the 2023. The 2024 is cool with a lively acidity, delightful balance and buvability … will match light fish or shellfish very fine … as it’s fresher and leaner than the 2023 and 2025. Drink now … or keep!
(Drink from 2025) – Very Good (88p) – ![]()
Domaine Marc Roy Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2024
The Gevrey Vieilles Vignes is a tight wine … tannins are moderate, but still she is not showing all at the moment. To me she needs one or two years to unfold the silkiness and the generosity. I do like the energetic tone … and the nice fruity side.
(Drink from 2029) – Very Good (88p) – ![]()
Domaine Marc Roy Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice 2024
The La Justice vineyard is located just behind the estate in the large alluvial fan from the Combe de Lavaux. This is a lovely open wine … good concentration and cool pinot fruit. Love the minerality from the alluvial fan … not a monumental wine … classic Gevrey classic Pinot.
