On my November trip to Burgundy I had the pleasure to visit Domaine Dublère and taste the 2013s.
A little background – Domaine Dublère was founded in 2003 by the American journalist Blair Pethel. The first vintage was 2004, and the domaine has since then gradually expanded the production and the portfolio of wines.
Domaine Dublère now makes quite a large a selection of both white and red Burgundies – all of very high quality given the individual appellation. All the wines are very pure, intense, quite light-footed and with a precise and transparent expression of the terroir – in other words more Burgundian than many of the local producers.
I have followed Domaine Dublère since the 2007 vintage and always loved the transparent and terroir driven style – in my view Blair is among the most talented vignerons in the region. Or simply put … I really like these wines.
Notes from the tasting on November 5th 2014
The red 2013s from Domaine Dublére show very well … as the light and transparent style of The estate goes very well with the rather powerful nature of the 2013s – It’s quite contrastful and bring something different to the table than the 2012 vintage. That being said … most vintages goes well with the lovely and transparent style of Domaine Dublère.
On a futher note .. Dublère was hit badly by hail again in 2013 … poor chap … so quantities are low to very low for some wines. So get some while you can.
Domaine Dublère, Savigny Les Planchots du Nord 2013
The Savigny Les Planchots du Nord is a lovely effort and a very good entry level Burg. In the nose lovely crisp red and dark fruits spiced with a nice display of minerality – forward and expressive. On the palate transparent cool fruit .. very well balanced with a very nice expression of pinot fruit. Lets not complicate things … a delightful glass.
(Drink from 2016) – Good (85 – 86p) – Tasted 05/11/2014 from cask.

Domaine Dublère, Beaune Blanches Fleur 1er cru 2013
The Beaune Blanches Fleur 1er cru is a quite rare bird coming from a relatively unknown terroir neighbouring Beaune Clos du Roi. This wine is produced from the upper and sandy part of this triangular vineyard. This terroir makes a quite interesting wine with a lovely full pinot expression. In the bouquet pure vibrant fruit with notes of dark cherries, raspberries – with hints of pomegranate. On the palate quite weighty and refined fruit – very finely focused by the powerful 2013 acidity – contrastful. Lovely nerve and energy … will be interesting to follow.
(Drink from 2020) – Very Good (88 – 90p) – Tasted 12/09/2013 from cask.

Domaine Dublère, Volnay Les Pitures 2013
The Volnay Les Pitures 2012 from Dublere is a quite serious wine – and a classic Volnay in the making. In the bouquet deep and quite dark fruit – spiced with red berries and a crunchy minerality. On the palate quite weighty fruit – very good transparancy and display of terroir. Will most likely require quite some cellaring to unfold completely – but is well worth the wait.
(Drink from 2022) – Very Good (89 – 91p) – Tasted 05/11/2014 from cask.
Domaine Dublère, Volnay Taillipeids 2013
The Volnay Taillipeids is a step up in minerality and concentration. In the bouquet layers of cool vibrant pinot fruit … with notes of dark cherries, boysenberries … brought forward by the powerful minerality. On the palate a lovely tension between the deep and quite weighty fruit and the vibrant backbone of minerality and powerful acidity. Its very focused and energetic … textbook top end Volnay in my book.
(Drink from 2024) – Fine (91 – 92p) – Tasted 05/11/2014 from cask.

Domaine Dublère, Morey-Saint-Denis Les Blanchards 2013
The Morey-Saint-Denis Blanchards 1er cru is one of my favorite wines from Domaine Dublere – mainly due to its very fine drinkability. In the bouquet transparent layers of red and dark fruits – spiced by a earthy minerality and a vibrant acidity On the palate quite silky and juicy fruit … very good weight … and focused by the crisp acidity. Love the contrast between the rich and quite ample fruit and the crunchy 2013 acidity.
(Drink from 2021) – Fine (90 – 92p) – Tasted 05/11/2014 from cask.

Domaine Dublère, Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Bousselots 2013
The Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Bousselots is … as always .. more tightly wound than the Morey Blanchards. The bouquet show slightly darker fruit – with notes of raspberries, dark cherries and a lovely focusing earthy minerality. On the palate tightly knit and intense fruit – slightly edgy – classic Nuits-Saint-Georges. The acidity brings nerve and energy to this wine – but it will need quite some time to unfold. A bigger wine than the Blanchards and very NSG for a Dublere.
(Drink from 2023) – Fine (91 – 92p) – Tasted 05/11/2011 from cask.
Tasting notes for the white Dublere 2013s will follow within a week or so.
