Winehog treat #1 … the pinot jar

Regardless of fortune, fame or occasional financial despair… I like to get a good wine at an affordable and attractive price.

Sometimes this is 25 EUR, other times it’s 100 EUR … and on rare occasion I feel tempted to push further … but to be honest, 200 EUR should involve a full-blown vin d`emotional experiece … something very few vignerons can muster.

I have therefore decided to pick a “Winehog treat” almost (if I remember and if I find one) every week … a wine that “breaks the stems” but not the bank. This column will be available only for Winehog subscribers.

“Winehog treat 1” – the pinot jar

Tasting 2024 has reminded me about the pleasure of lightness and the flow of delicate pinot running over my palate and in my veins.

La Pierre Ronde Bourgogne Rouge Amphorae 2022

This Bourgogne Rouge comes from a plot of young vines in the Vaux area, also in the Cote Chalonnaise. It is more serious, with a tremendous nose and palate of strawberries and hints of framboise. Expressive, but without the flamboyant style of the young-vine cuvee, this was fully destemmed and raised 100% in amphorae. (Bottled in August 2023.)

…. tasted on 12/10/2025, it showed all the flamboyant and delicate lightfooted pinot flavours, frambaise and forest strawberries … brought forward with an airy minerality. Such a sexy wine … what a treat after a set of bigger wines.

The young wine cuvee and even cheaper has the same expression of lightfooted exuberance… drink me, enjoy me, dwell and submerge me … and make it sinfully exquisite.
