Bouchard Pere et Fils, Le Corton 2014

The Corton from Bouchard is one of my reference wines on the big hill – as it has performed well quite consistently over many years. The Bouchard Corton is from the Le Corton section at the very top of the vineyard, a section with a high proportion of limestone – this yields an intensely mineral driven wine. Some would argue this is white wine terroir – but the Le Corton from Bouchard show that great reds can be made here too. The nose offer pure red fruit and an explosion of limestony minerality … intense and only with a very moderate impression of oak. On the palate pure and delicate red fruit – good intensity on the mid-palate with a beautiful core of sweet red pinot fruit, its all beautifully focused by the very strong stony mineral backbone. This a textbook Le Corton .. so pure and mineral driven .. just lovely.
