Back to where it all began – when Winehog was conceived in July 2011 – at a tasting of Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair. Back then it was the 2010 vintage now its the 2016 edition – how time flies!
While the 2010 vintage still is my favourite vintage from this estate – I do think the quality here is edging upwards adding more focus and detail to the wines – most likely due to the conversion to Biodynamic viticulture.
So I was looking forward to taste the 2016s from Louis-Michel Liger-Belair – as this vintage was not what you would call a walk in the park for this and other estates – with the April frost taking its toll in especially Nuits-Saint-Georges Clos des Grandes Vignes and Echezeaux.
Tasting at Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair
One thing I love about this work is the visits at the estates – meeting the vignerons, meeting their employees and sometimes even their families.
As the years pass one get to know the estate and the people behind it. So also at Domaine du Comte-Liger Belair, where I always have been generously and graciously received and often by the strong but friendly voice of Arak the beautiful Weimaraner guarding the estate. Sadly Arak passed away in late August 2017 – I for one will miss his greetings.

The 2016s at Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair
Anyhow to the 2016s – as mentioned the frost took quite a slice of the yields – but despite a troublesome year Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair has produced a lovely set of 2016s.
As I tasted the wines quite early on this year, some wines were not ready to taste – so not notes on several of the wines this time around.
The 2016s here are excellent showing a somewhat cooler and lighter fruit than the 2015s – that being said the 2015s really gained focus and detail after bottling – confirming that its a great vintage with a beautiful balance.
