Visit to Domaine Duroché – tasting the 2019s from cask

The 2019 vintage was a tremendous success for Pierre Duroché. Not many growers timed the harvest better.

The result is vivid, fresh, and lively 2019s, from the entry-level wines to the Clos de Beze and Griotte-Chambertin. They are hedonistic treasures all the way, and real treats!

Pierre Duroché made some tremendous 2015s and 2016s, lovely 2017s, and even the hot 2018s had a delicate, fine balance. But the 2019s have taken Domaine Duroché to a new level – they are that good.

The 2019s here have a vivacious, lively style with fresh berry notes – lingon- and cloudberries – with slightly warmish raspberry and wild strawberry notes, and even some pomegranate from millerandage (shot) berries.

They are very, very delicious and sensual.

These 2019s are simply delightful, with vivid freshness, zen-like balance, and a very charming character. Purely and simply, they are vins d’émotion.

Duroché’s ’19s are in the best sense of the word effortless – and they drink so well. There will be few domaines that match this line-up’s quality in 2019.

Reds start with the Domaine Duroché Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2019, a vivid and lively wine displaying a cool side for the vintage. Rhubarb combines with raspberries and red cherries to give this wine a very enjoyable feel. This is a vin de soif!

(Drink From 2020) – Good – (85-87p) – Tasted 10/07/2020 –

Next up is the Domaine Duroché Gevrey-Chambertin 2019 village – a large cuvée of 32 barrels, although the volume pales beside 2018’s 56 casks! This is also a clear step up in quality from previous vintages; a splendid wine, very lively and vivid, and an amazingly good village. Bravo! I adore the fine acidity and freshness.
