On my recent trip to Burgundy I had the opportunity to re-visit one of the rising stars of Burgundy – Domaine Dublere.
A little background – Domaine Dublere was founded in 2003 by the American journalist Blair Pethel. The first vintage was 2004, and the domaine has since then gradually expanded the production and the portfolio of wines.
Domaine Dublere now makes quite a large a selection of both white and red Burgundies – all of very high quality given the individual appellation. All the wines are very pure, intense, quite light-footed and with a precise and transparent expression of the terroir – in other words more Burgundian than many of the local producers.
I have followed Domaine Dublere since the 2007 vintage and always loved the transparent and terroir driven style – in my view Blair is one of the most talented new vignerons in the region. The quantities are very low in both 2012 and 2013 and demand is rising – get some before the prices go through the roof.
Notes from tasting September 12th 2013
The red 2012s from Domaine Dublere show great potential – the fruit is ample and cool – balanced by a lovely acidity and a fine display of minerality. They have more weight, fruit and charm than the otherwise very harmonious 2011s – and are more flamboyant than the excellent 2010s. I don’t think they quite match the 2010s but it’s close …. this is a collection of beautiful wines.
Domaine Dublere, Savigny Les Planchots du Nord 2012
The Savigny Les Planchots du Nord is a beautiful effort for this appellation. In the nose lovely crisp red and dark fruits spiced with a nice display of minerality. On the palate quite rich and weighty fruit for this level – it’s transparent and pure with a nice expression of terroir. The ample fruit in the 2012 vintage really suits this wine … will offer a lot of pinot pleasure – Enjoy!
(Drink from 2016) – Good (86 – 87p) – Tasted 12/09/2013 from cask.

Domaine Dublere, Savigny Les Talmettes 2012
The Savigny Talmettes 2012 is one of the very best wines I have tasted from this appellation. In the nose – slightly reduced – but with a lovely involving display of red fruits – strawberries, pomegranate and cherries. On the palate focused with a lovely display of ample fruit … vibrant with charm and nerve. The display of terroir is indeed impressive for this level … Savigny doesn’t get much better than this!
(Drink from 2018) – Good+ (87 – 88p) – Tasted 12/09/2013 from cask.

Domaine Dublere, Beaune Blanches Fleur 1er cru 2012
The Beaune Blanches Fleur 1er cru is a quite rare bird coming from a relatively unknown terroir neighbouring Beaune Clos du Roi. This wine is produced from the upper and sandy part of this triangular vineyard. This terroir makes a quite interesting wine with a lovely full pinot expression. In the bouquet pure vibrant fruit with notes of cherries, raspberries – hints of strawberries and pomegranate. On the palate quite rich and refined fruit – finely balanced by a firm and crisp acidity backbone. Love the juicyness and terroir expression of this wine – should not be overlooked.
(Drink from 2020) – Very Good+ (90 – 92p) – Tasted 12/09/2013 from cask.

Domaine Dublere, Volnay Les Pitures 2012
The Volnay Les Pitures 2012 from Dublere is a lovely pinot in the making. The nose is bursting with red fruits – strawberries, cherries and pomegranate – displayed with a nice crisp minerality. On the palate quite ample fruit – very good transparancy and display of terroir. A lovely Volnay.
(Drink from 2019) – Very Good (89 – 91p) – Tasted 12/09/2013 from cask.

Domaine Dublere, Volnay Taillipeids 2012
The Volnay Taillipeids 2012 is a step up in minerality and concentration. In the bouquet layers of cool vibrant pinot fruit with notes of red forest berries and jellied fruits. The nose also offer a lovely display of vibrant minerality – charming but razor sharp. On the palate a gorgeous tension between layers of ample sweet fruit and the vibrant backbone of minerality and zappy acidity. The fruit is rich and very refined with a excellent nerve and energy. A gorgeous Volnay – one of my favorite wines from this appellation.
(Drink from 2022) – Fine+ (91 – 93p) – Tasted 12/09/2013 from cask.

Domaine Dublere, Morey-Saint-Denis Les Blanchards 2012
The Morey-Saint-Denis Blanchards 1er cru is another of my favorite wines from Domaine Dublere. In the bouquet complex and transparent layers of red fruits with notes of pomegranate, strawberries and raspberries – spiced with a earthy minerality. On the palate a silky but juicy fruit with layers of pure red pinot aromas – focused and quite refined for this appelation. It’s not a great mineralic terroir but it offers a gorgeous drinkability with it’s lovely fruit and crisp acidity. Get plenty … they seem to vanish from the cellar.
(Drink from 2021) – Fine+ (91 – 93p) – Tasted 12/09/2013 from cask.

Domaine Dublere, Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Bousselots 2012
The Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Bousselots is a step up in minerality and focus from the Morey Blanchards. The bouquet show slightly darker fruit – with notes of raspberries, dark charries and a lovely focusing earthy minerality. On the palate ample and intense fruit – juicy with a almost airy feel – very refined. The fruit is jellied with a sweet core balanced by a crisp acidity – adding a nice nerve and energy to the wine. Love the fruit and display of Nuits-Saint-Georges Terroir – A fine wine indeed.
(Drink from 2023) – Fine+ (91 – 93p) – Tasted 12/09/2013 from cask.
