On my recent trip to Burgundy I had the opportunity to re-visit one of the rising stars of Burgundy – Domaine Dublere.
A little background – Domaine Dublere was founded in 2003 by the American journalist Blair Pethel. The first vintage was 2004, and the domaine has since then gradually expanded the production and the portfolio of wines.
Domaine Dublere now makes quite a large a selection of both white and red Burgundies – all of very high quality given the individual appellation. All the wines are very pure, intense, quite light-footed and with a precise and transparent expression of the terroir – in other words more Burgundian than many of the local producers.
I have followed Domaine Dublere since the 2007 vintage and always loved the transparent and terroir driven style – in my view Blair is one of the most talented new vignerons in the region. The quantities are very low in both 2012 and 2013 and demand is rising – get some before the prices go through the roof.
Notes from tasting September 12th 2013
The white 2012s from Domaine Dublere show great promise – the fruit is rich but cool, and balanced by a lovely expression of acidity and minerality. They are more outgoing than the very harmonious 2011s and perhaps more flamboyant than the 2010s. I don’t think they quite match the 2010s but they could well be evenly matched with 2011 … very fine wines in all appellations.
Domaine Dublere, Bourgogne Blanc – Les Millerandes 2012
The Bourgogne Blanc 2012 is a very charming wine for this level. The nose is offering quite expressive notes of ripe orchard fruits balanced by a lovely citrus notes and hints of minerality. On the palate rich fruit for this level finely balanced by the crisp acidity. A truly lovely Bourgogne Blanc.
(Drink from 2014) – Good (84 – 86p) – Tasted 12/09/2013 from cask.

Domaine Dublere, Savigny Les Vergeless 2012
The Savigny Les Vergeless is a lovely effort from this appellation. In the nose lovely orchard fruits, crisp citrus notes and a nice chalky minerality. On the palate quite rich and opulent fruit – balanced perfectly by the lovely acidity and the interesting minerality. It’s very focused and long for this level. I know … white Savigny!! … but give it a chance – it’s a bargain.
(Drink from 2017) – Good+ (87 – 88p) – Tasted 12/09/2013 from cask.

Domaine Dublere, Meursault Les Crotots 2012
The Les Crotots is still quite difficult to evaluate – but shows a lovely potential. The nose is still closed and slightly yeasty. The palate show rich and pure fruit – transparent with a perfect view to the lovely village terroir. Will it match the beautiful 2010 … hard to say at this stage – but the components are certainly there – lovely rich fruit and a crisp vibrant acidity. I’m really looking forward to taste this from bottle.
(Drink from 2020) – Very Good+ (89 – 91p) – Tasted 12/09/2013 from cask.

Domaine Dublere, Nuits-Saint-Georges Blanc 2012
The Nuits-Saint-Georges “Les Terre Blanc” is a charming effort. On the nose slightly aloof and reduced, with notes of melon, pear and different citrus aromas. On the palate quite rich and outgoing but framed by the slightly edgy minerality from the Cote de Nuits terroir. The rich 2012 fruit really suits this wine – a good effort.
(Drink from 2019) – Good+ (87 – 88p) – Tasted 12/09/2013 from cask.

Domaine Dublere, Chassagne Montrachet Les Chaumees 2012
The Chassagne Les Chaumees is a mineralic powerhouse … a beautiful terroi driven wine. In the bouquet rich white orchard fruits, with a quite stony minerality and citrus notes. On the palate a lovely rich and deep fruit – excellent acidity and a very crisp minerality. Love this wine with it’s crystal clear fruit and powerful minerality – this is how Chassagne should be – bravo!
(Drink from 2022) – Fine+ (91 – 93p) – Tasted 12/09/2013 from cask.

Domaine Dublere, Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chenevotte 2012
The Chassagne Chenevottes is a somewhat deeper and more dense than Les Chaumees. The bouquet is slightly closed and reduced/yeasty at the moment – but with underlying notes of white orchard fruits and a citrus infused finely grained minerality. On the palate quite deep and intense fruit – a bigger wine than the Chaumees – but perhaps lacking a bit of the energy and tension found in the gorgeous Chaumees. This is nevertheless a fine Chassagene in the making.
(Drink from 2020) – Fine (90 – 92p) – Tasted 12/09/2013 from cask.
—
Domaine Dublere, Corton Charlemagne 2012
The Corton Charlemagne 2012 from Domaine Dublere is a gorgeous effort. In the bouquet rich orchard fruits with notes of pear, pineapple and citrus – supported by a crisp and focused minerality. On the palate rich and almost opulent fruit – beautifully balanced by the powerful minerality and the very crisp acidity. Love the balance and the expressive fruit – it’s a quite charming and forward Charlie – but still very precise and focused with impressive length and intensity. A very fine wine in the making.
(Drink from 2025) – Very Fine (93 – 94p) – Tasted 12/09/2013 from cask.
