The Domaine Roulot 2019s were sensual and on the slightly exotic side, and it was, therefore, difficult to believe that the 2020s could be even better and more refined.
But they are. The Roulot ’20s have an airy effortlessness that makes them beautifully refined, while still maintaining the impressive intensity found in the vintage.
These are vins d’émotion, offering refined, airy fruit which outclasses most of the Roulot vintages I have tasted before – if not all of them.
The Roulot 2020s
The Roulot 2020s are intense, yet have a fine lightness that is found in very few vintages. They rival the domaine’s 2014s, and their effortlessness and delicacy seem to give the ’20s an edge over the powerful ’14s, whose only weakness was the almost brutal intensity and its consequent dearth of refinement.
The 2020s have this refinement, and they are a treat to the palate. They are vins d’émotion fair and square.
Nothing more to say really, so – to the notes!

Jean-Marc Roulot Bourgogne Blanc 2020
The Bourgogne Blanc is a fresh and vivid wine. It’s airy and effortless, and for a Bourgogne Blanc, it is both refined and delicate, with beautiful balance and intensity. Perfect is a big word for a little wine, but this is a true delight.
(Drink From 2022) – Very Good+ – (88p) – Tasted 18/05/2022 –
Jean-Marc Roulot Meursault Auxey-Duresses 2020
From the two plots Les Houtés and Les Fosses, this is refined, with an intense minerality and a cool, elegant stature. It perhaps lacks the sensual feel of the Meursault village, but with some shellfish, it will be right at home. Impressive quality for this level. Too generous? Perhaps.
(Drink From 2026) – Very Good – (89p) – Tasted 18/05/2022 –
Jean-Marc Roulot Meursault 2020
The Meursault village is from different plots in the appellation, but is largely Clos de la Baronne. It’s cool, vivid, and airy, with delicate fruit notes. This is a delightful Meursault with plenty of terroir expression: bravo; what a treat. The best “regular” Meursault I’ve tasted from Roulot.
(Drink From 2028) – Very Good – (90p) – Tasted 18/05/2022 –
Domaine Roulot Meursault Vireuils 2020
The Vireuils is showing beautifully, with some slight reduction giving the wine a fresh expression and a delightful mineral note. A brilliant expression of this terroir – and a gorgeous accompaniment for the most complex fish dishes. Impressive.
(Drink From 2030) – Very Good – (89p) – Tasted 18/05/2022 –

- Domaine Roulot – Tasting the 2021s; Forward to the Past! The 2021 vintage in many ways comes from an annus horribilis, especially if you are located in Côte de Beaune and make white wine.
