Visit to Domaine Roulot – Tasting the 2024s

The 2024 vintage, with the low alcohol and the lovely transparent and airy fruit, is a wonderful treat.

The pheenolics are ripe … just ripe … with a cool note. Most of the wines have almost optimal phenolics … close to… and this is in my view a tremendous opportunity for getting a great vintage. Roulot certainly nailed it to 95% … and then some!

Is 2024 the best vintage in recent years … or even decades?, I don’t know, as 2014 is still dominating in the background, as is the maturing 2010 vintage. But 2024 could be a personal favourite.

The elegance of 2024 is unique … with the effortless harmony and airy transparent view to the terroirs – effortless and zen-like.

Jean-Marc Roulot Bourgogne Blanc 2024

The Bourgogne Blanc is a bit on the generous side … rich but with a nice zappiness. Phenolics are balanced, hence no heavy global warming overripeness – a lovely balance due to the cool vintage. In reality, one could say that 2024 has a pre-global warming style and qualities … but I`m not sure we can exactly remember the time before global warming … i.e., before 1997 … 1999, where the global warming really started affecting the Burgundy wines. But love 2024 for the cool beauty it beholds.

The Meursault village is from different plots in the appellation, but it mostly comes from Clos de la Baronne and Crotot. It’s quite cool and airy with a gorgeous drinkability … A wine that can serve many purposes … from apéro to all kinds of hedonistic purposes.

Domaine Roulot Meursault Les Clous 2024
The Les Clous plot is new, coming from the sale and exchange of vineyards between Bouchard Père et Fils and Roulot (and de Montille). It still has a whiff of that note that reminds me of Bouchard Les Clous. Never liked Les Clous much before … but feel the style is gradually changing towards the classical Roulot style!
