Domaine Grivot is normally quite predictable and constant with the same wines showing strong form year after year.
2023 is however somewhat different, as some of the other cuvées are showing very well … giving some surprises.

As always, Mathilde Grivot presents the wines in an efficient and charming way; it is always a pleasure to visit here.

The 2023 tasting
Domaine Jean Grivot Côteaux Bourguignons 2023
The Côteaux Bourguignons is a lovely basic wine made from 100% Gamay. The 2023 is fresh and forward … just like the vintage was intended.
(Drink From 2025) – Good+ –
Domaine Jean Grivot Bourgogne Rouge 2023
The Bourgogne Rouge, as usual, shows another liveliness. Vivid and quite weigthy … enjoyable to my palate.
(Drink From 2025) – Good+ –
Domaine Jean Grivot Vosne-Romanée 2023
A bit on the generous side yield-wise … but drinking well with a joyful appearance. Not the most complex of wines.
(Drink From 2030) – Very Good (89p)
Domaine Jean Grivot Nuits-Saint-Georges Aux Lavières 2023
(Drink From 2030) – Very Good (88p)
Domaine Jean Grivot Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Charmois 2023
The Charmois is vivid, lively and effortless. Presumably, a result of optimal ripeness and generous yields, this seems to be the recipe to produce a hedonistic wine in the southern end of NSG. Ok … a bit provocative… but the time of the big and inky NSGs should be over.
(Drink From 2029) – Very Good (88-89p) –
Domaine Jean Grivot Chambolle-Musigny La Combe d’Orveau 2023
On the border of Chambolle and Flagey-Échezeaux, the Combe d’Orveau contains a triumvirate of levels, with village, 1er Cru, and Grand Cru vineyards spread among very different geologies. This is from the valley’s southern part, which is perhaps more Flagey than Chambolle limestone. Not really showing at the moment, with the phenolics perhaps a bit on the riper side.
(Drink From 2030) – Very Good (89-90p) –
Domaine Jean Grivot Vosne-Romanée Bossières 2023
The Vosne Bossières is, as always, a step up from the regular Vosne village. Lovely hedonistic feel – elegant, with a beautiful bouquet of Vosne spices. A classical 2023 with the good energy and a generous yield.
(Drink From 2033) – Very Good (90p) –
Domaine Jean Grivot Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 2023
Lively Chaumes lacks the last in energy but provides lovely drinking. So not bad at all ….
(Drink From 2030) – Fine+ (91p) –
